- Fortnightly Monday evenings: 5pm - 7pm
Meal Preparation Volunteer
We are seeking volunteers to assist with preparation and serving of a delicious home-cooked meals to the community. Working as a team with other dedicated volunteers, you will cook up a storm whilst ensuring a clean environment and safe food handling procedures are maintained.
Meal Preparation Volunteer responsibilities
- Working effectively with the kitchen team, and complying with company procedures and food safety policies
- Preparing a workstation with required ingredients and equipment, and keeping station sanitary and organised throughout shift
- Preparing ingredients following recipes and guidelines or direction from the kitchen supervisor
- Basic cooking responsibilities
- Ensuring ingredients are tagged, date-labelled, covered, stored and rotated effectively
- Removing rubbish and recycling
- Cleaning duties each shift regarding surfaces, machinery, appliances, benches, fridges and floors
- Understanding of food preparation fundamentals
- Sound understanding of food allergies, dietary requirements and food borne illnesses.

*This role would suit people with hospitality studies or work experience behind them, retired Chef's and hospitality professionals, students studying a Certificate in Hospitality, Cooking or Food & Beverage or a person who has experience cooking for a large family.
St Mary’s Picket Fence
The Picket Fence Community Centre began as an outreach project of the Anglican parish of St Marys in 1991 and came under the oversight of AnglicareSA in 2008. The Centre provides a range of activities and services, including Emergency Financial Assistance, affordable community meals, Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Market, and the Picket Fence Art Group.
Other programs on the site include the Picket Fence Community Garden, Project Centre and Op Shop.
